ActionAid mourns the passing of Feminist Leader Everjoice Win

Everjoice Win

Arthur Larok, the Secretary General of ActionAid International has paid tribute to Everjoice Win, who passed away on 9 March 2025. He said,

“The ActionAid family is devastated to hear of the passing of our dear sister, Everjoice Win. EJ, as she was affectionately known, was a brave and daring feminist at the federation, who would speak truth to power, to whoever held that power. She believed in sisterhood and showed how to build that sisterhood with compassion, intelligence and humour.

EJ built the foundation of ActionAid's work on Women’s Rights and Feminist Alternatives over twenty years ago. It was also under her direct guidance that ActionAid's International Strategy, 'Action for Global Justice,' was developed. She left a profound mark on the organisation, and so we mourn her passing and join the wider feminist and social justice movement to celebrate her enduring legacy.

We will share details of a planned online memorial and celebration of her life in line with her last instructions, and in collaboration with her family.

We send our sincere condolences to EJ's family.”
